Origin of the Club
On November 10, 2007, approximately 14 runners met on a cold morning in a local coffee house discussing with admiration the running clubs flourishing in other communities.
The runners debated whether there was sufficient interest in Northeastern South Dakota to operate a running club. The result was a unanimous decision to form an organization dedicated to promoting running and runners. A week later, the Aberdeen Area Running Club, a not-for-profit corporation was formed. Today, still in its first year of existence, the club is actively supporting area runners and sponsoring events as diverse as area races, the 2008 USATF championships for both North and South Dakota, and a social hour with world-famous marathoner, Dick Beardsley. The club is comprised of nearly one-hundred area runners.
